Team Bertie: Like father, like son

Team-Bertie

We’ve been blown away this week by the newest members of Team Bertie: Nick McCoy, David Taylor and Luke Moorcroft who will be taking on the West Lancashire Summer Triathlon this August in aid of Bertie’s Buccaneers. They’ll be running, cycling and swimming around the glorious Edge Hill University campus to raise funds to find a cure for children like Bertie. A big pirate salute to Nick, Luke and David! You can support them here.

It was team leader Nick’s son, Oliver, that donated his pocket money earlier in the spring, after Bertie’s Buccaneers had been featured in two of our local newspapers (The Visiter and the Liverpool Echo – many thanks to Andrew Brown and Sophie McCoid.)

“My son Oliver showed a maturity and unselfishness that can not be measured when, soon after his 5th birthday, he donated a large percentage of his birthday money to a classmate and his muscular dystrophy charity, Bertie’s Buccaneers.” Writes Nick on his JustGiving page.

“It was the kind of generosity that makes you stand up and take notice.  Oliver has a full understanding of the value of money and the difference his generosity will make.  Since then I have set out in search of a challenge that will start to make Oliver as proud of me as I am of him.”

Bertie’s Buccaneers are so lucky to have the McCoy family and their friends coming on board. If you would like to take part in an event local to you or take up one of the pre-organised Muscular Dystrophy UK places, please get in touch: info@bertiesbuccaneers.com
